This Privacy Policy describes how Study Hiragana (“we”, “our”, “the site”) collects, uses, and discloses information about you when you visit studyhiragana.com. The same policy applies to our companion site, the other of studyhiragana.com / studykatakana.com.

1. Information We Collect

You do not need to create an account or provide personal information to use this site’s learning tools. The following information is collected automatically:

• Usage data on your device: pages visited, characters practiced, and progress through lessons. This is stored locally in your browser using localStorage and stays on your device — we do not receive a copy.
• Anonymous analytics: aggregate usage information (page views, session duration, approximate country) collected via Google Analytics.
• Advertising data: when third-party advertising is enabled, anonymous identifiers used to serve and measure ads.

If you buy something from our shop, you also give us:

• Order details: your name, email address, phone number, and shipping address, entered at checkout, plus what you ordered and the language you browsed in.
• Payment details: entered directly into Stripe’s secure checkout. We never see or store your full card number; we only receive confirmation that the payment succeeded.

2. Cookies and Local Storage

The site uses browser localStorage to remember your progress, theme preference, and settings between visits. Clearing your browser storage will reset your progress.

Cookies are set by Google Analytics and (when enabled) Google AdSense for analytics and advertising purposes.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services, which may set their own cookies and process information about you:

• Google Analytics — anonymous traffic analytics. See Google’s privacy policy.
• Stripe — processes shop payments and sends payment receipts. See Stripe’s privacy policy.
• Gelato — our print-on-demand partner, which produces your order and ships it through its delivery carriers. It receives your name, shipping address, email, and phone number for that purpose. See Gelato’s privacy policy.
• Google AdSense — third-party vendor that may use cookies (including the DoubleClick DART cookie) to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time via Google Ads Settings or www.youradchoices.com.

4. How We Use Information

• To save your learning progress locally on your device.
• To understand how the site is used in aggregate, so we can improve it.
• To serve relevant advertising when ads are enabled.
• For shop orders: to take payment, have your order produced and delivered, email you about your order (such as shipping and tracking updates), and handle any questions, replacements, or refunds. We do not send marketing emails.

We keep order records only as long as needed to fulfil your order, handle after-sales questions, and meet our legal and tax record-keeping obligations.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only with the service providers listed above (Google Analytics, Google AdSense, and, for shop orders, Stripe and Gelato and its delivery carriers), and only as needed for them to do their part. Those services operate under their own privacy policies. Because these providers operate internationally, your information may be processed outside your country of residence.

6. Your Choices

• Clear all locally stored progress by clearing your browser’s site data for this domain.
• Opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
• Opt out of personalized advertising via Google Ads Settings.
• Ask us for a copy of the order information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing us. Some records may need to be kept for legal or tax reasons.

7. Children’s Privacy

This site is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We do not require account creation, and progress is saved only in the local browser.
