Ký tự め đại diện cho âm tiết 'me', âm 'm' nhẹ theo sau bởi 'e' như trong 'pet'. Thuộc hàng ま. Lưu ý: め trông giống ぬ (nu) — nhưng め mở hơn, trong khi ぬ có thêm một vòng kín ở phía dưới bên phải.
